Healing involves the whole person – mind, body and spirit. Sean Savoy, project developer for the Spiritual Center & Estelle J. Kelsey Interfaith Sanctuary at Renown, talks about the importance of caring for more than just a patient’s physical needs.
Why does Renown place such an importance on spiritual care?
Research shows when patients’ emotional needs are met, they experience shorter hospital stays, better pain management, improved heart rate and blood pressure, and a greater motivation to heal. The objective of spiritual care is to create a sense of well-being that promotes healing in patients and leads them to maintain a level of health into the future.
Renown Regional Medical Center recently renovated the historic interfaith chapel. Talk about the renovation and why the expansion was needed.
The historic interfaith chapel at Renown Regional has gone through basic updates throughout the years, but it was time for a transformational renovation and expansion to suit the needs of our diverse community.
Renown Health partnered with the Nevada Interfaith Association to bring a more comprehensive spiritual care experience that will better address the inner well-being needs of patients in the region thanks to the creation of the Spiritual Center and Estelle J. Kelsey Interfaith Sanctuary.
The vision of the newly renovated Spiritual Center is to serve as the heart of the hospital and provide a space that fully embraces the diversity of patients, their loved ones and caregivers. The design of the Estelle J. Kelsey Interfaith Sanctuary incorporates natural elements of wood, metal, stone and glass.
