The most important relationship we have is the one with ourselves. So why don’t we date and treat ourselves with the love we deserve? Whether you are newly single or have been married for 25 years, here are five benefits of dating yourself.

1. Fall in love with yourself.

Falling in love with yourself will give you more self-compassion and resilience. The happiest of humans are the ones who love themselves unconditionally and can grow from their mistakes. When we learn to love ourselves, we might gain a deeper capacity to love others.

2. Strengthen your independence.

Another one of the benefits of dating yourself is the amount of alone time you get. But being alone doesn’t have to be lonely! It might be difficult at first, but you will eventually come to find that your own company is simply the best. You can begin to develop self-reliance that you will carry with you throughout the rest of your life.

3. Understand who you are.

Dating yourself makes you ask the tough questions, just like when you are building a relationship with another person. Figure out your personal aspirations and determine the steps you need to accomplish your goals.  You might develop better decision-making skills and learn to stand up for yourself when you know what you want.

4. Build your confidence.

It could feel awkward and weird to embark on your first solo date. But this experience will help build your confidence, and you might even discover that one day you are brave enough to venture on an international vacation on your own. Dating yourself will allow you to break down barriers and leave your comfort zone behind.

5. Do what you want to do.

You don’t have to compromise when you date yourself! If you are a habitual people-pleaser, then dating yourself might feel shocking at first. You are the only decision-maker of what you do, so use this time to find out what you are passionate about without the influence of a partner. You can try new hobbies and watch your favorite movie three times in one weekend.

  1. Guilt free cho pudding. Very. Interesting! I'd have to take out a loan ...just to buy the exotic ingredients! I'm sure it s good ...but would rather just have an avacado on its own.
