Christopher Kozlowski, MD, Medical Director of Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health recently met with Ann Louhela, President of Nevada Grown at the United Methodist Church’s weekly farmers market in Sparks, Nev. to learn more about our area’s growers and their offerings.

He shares some heart-healthy produce selections, discovers what’s currently in season — including tomatoes, corn on the cob, berries and melons — and what the Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program is all about.

“I like to call it a subscription to the farms. You pay ahead of time and then once a week the CSA coming from Fallon will deliver boxes of fresh produce at the hospital,” Ann says. “There are probably 30, 40, 50 people that every week will get a fresh box of seasonal produce.”
