In honor of Mother’s Day, Cheryl Jameson, RN at Renown, shares how proud she is of her daughter as she begins her nursing career. Her daughter, Jessica, shares how she hopes to continue her mom’s legacy of caring for others.
Cheryl Jameson is a Registered Nurse (RN) at Renown South Meadows Medical Center and has worked at Renown since 1979.
Cheryl looks at her daughter beaming with the kind of pride only a mom is capable of and says, “When she has the purple scrubs on I’m like, ‘Aw, you’re a nurse now.’”
Her daughter Jessica Jameson has just started her career as a RN at Renown Regional Medical Center in the Sierra Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
“I’m so happy she decided to do what I do because when I came home tired or grumpy sometimes, I always hoped she didn’t think it was a bad job because I’ve always loved being a nurse,” Cheryl said.
As a little girl, Jessica went to the daycare center for children of Renown employees – back when Renown Health was called Washoe County Medical Center.
“Some of my earliest memories are from daycare here,” she said. “I remember visiting my mom’s unit and I was afraid to look in the patients’ rooms, but I’ve obviously gotten over it now.”
Passing Down the Nursing Profession
Jessica’s eyes light up when she talks about the nursing profession as she begins her career at Renown. And her mom is excited for her to find her passion and explore all that nursing has to offer her daughter, just like it’s offered her.
“When she started considering the career, I told her that it’s a great career – you have so many opportunities to do different things, you don’t have to always work in a hospital and it’s so rewarding.”
Before Jessica’s first official day as a RN on Sierra ICU, Cheryl told her, “You’ve got this, you’re going to be a great nurse – you’re kind, compassionate and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.”
“I’m so excited to be here,” Jessica said. “I feel like I’m following in my mom’s footsteps and I just want to make her proud and carry on a legacy.”
