Kara Taormina is back in the classroom and stronger than ever after undergoing open-heart surgery. A teacher for 30 years, Tara suffered from mitral valve prelapse and a minor heart murmur for 15 years, during which time the conditions worsened. In the end, open-heart surgery was the solution.

Today, Kara has recovered and remains positive about her future.

“I now see that there’s opportunity in your challenges in life. And if you can harness that, your journey is even more rich.”
