Miracle Recovery: Visitor from India Gets Second Chance at Life After Stroke

Sunpreet (Danny) Singh was visiting Reno from India when he suddenly suffered a severe stroke that left him unable to walk, talk or swallow. His doctors at Renown Rehabilitation Hospital call his recovery a “miracle.”

Sunpreet (Danny) Singh came to Reno to visit a friend several months ago when he suffered a stroke and was rushed to Renown Regional Medical Center.

After nearly 100 days in the hospital, Singh came to Renown Rehabilitation Hospital unable to walk, talk or swallow.

“Danny represents the kind of people that we see sometimes here at the rehab hospital — truly miracles,” says Stefan Humphries, MD, Renown Rehabilitation Hospital medical director. “Everything he has projected as a goal for himself, he has accomplished.”

Humphries says Singh may stay in Reno for more rehab services after he is discharged from the hospital because there are limited physical therapy resources in India.

About his own recovery, Singh says, “I think you’ve got to be positive. I know it’s not an overnight thing.”
