It’s all part of a Food as Medicine class held not in a classroom, but in a grocery store.
“We’re trying to teach people to spend more time over in the fruits and vegetables and really gravitate towards the foods that we know are really, really good for you,” says Wyatt.
More than a dozen residents attended the first class held at the Save Mart Supermarket on McCarran Boulevard in Reno.
Food as Medicine, Explained
“When it comes to the healthiest vegetable out there, it’s all vegetables in even amounts,” Wyatt explains. “A wide variety of color. A wide variety of flavor. Wide variety of crunches and also softness. Try just about everything until you really find what you like and then try more.”
Park agrees, explaining how the class is related to the Integrative Medicine approach.
“Nutrition is one of the basic needs in our well being and in our health,” she says. “This is a huge part of our Integrative Medicine practice. The class is full of lots of different food ideas and tips on how to eat healthier.”
