Watch an extreme athlete’s journey toward recovery following a devastating accident.

Adventurer, world-champion water skier, freestyle snowboarder — Brett Kennedy was an extreme sports enthusiast. But a devastating snowboarding accident threatened to take it all way.

Kennedy received his post-accident surgery and rehabilitation therapy at Renown Health, where a new partnership between Renown Rehabilitation Hospital and the High Fives Foundation is helping extreme athletes like Kennedy regain independence, strength and mobility, while enjoying the adventure-fueled lifestyle they love.

“Snowboarding is still a ways down the road, because I know I’m going to need a lot of strength for it,” Kennedy says. “Definitely going to do it again.”

With the community’s proximity to Lake Tahoe and the adventures the area affords, Chris Nicholas, administrator of Renown Rehabilitation Hospital, stresses the importance of having comprehensive rehabilitation services close to home in case of an accident.

“Our goal is to provide industry-leading comprehensive spinal cord injury rehabilitation for our patients, so they can recover close to home with their support system and family around them,” says Chris Nicholas, administrator of Renown Rehabilitation Hospital.
