Reno 1868 FC Joins Healthy Nevada Project

Reno’s professional soccer team, Reno 1868 FC, recently joined the Healthy Nevada Project and completed their DNA tests. And we have video. Oh yes, we have video.

So what exactly happens when you invite competitive athletes to take a DNA test?

A spit contest, of course.

When the Healthy Nevada Project and Soccer Players Collide (But Not Literally)

The Healthy Nevada Project invited members of Reno 1868 FC to join the groundbreaking population health study and receive genetics testing at no cost. Participants in the study — which recently opened up to an additional 40,000 northern Nevadans — provide a saliva sample for sequencing through Helix, a personal genomics company.

So, naturally, our competitive friends at 1868 FC took this as an opportunity to race to fill their test tubes.

Spoiler alert: Cheating may or may not have ensued.

Watch more from this behind-the-scenes look at the Healthy Nevada Project test site, and learn why the team members are excited to discover information about their genealogy.
