Over the last 26 years, local Walmart and Sam’s Club stores have raised $1.4 million to benefit Renown Children’s Hospital. And for the next campaign, their goal is an aggressive one: $130,000. Here’s how to help.
You’ve no doubt been to a Walmart or Sam’s Club in recent years and been asked to donate to northern Nevada’s only Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, Renown Children’s Hospital.
But what does that money really mean to the local community?
During these past 26 years, donations have funded lifesaving technology in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, helped hire new specialists to support our littlest patients and their families, and enhanced healing.
“We greatly appreciate the support from Walmart and Sam’s Club associates and customers over the last 26 years,” said Becky Haase, director of nursing for Renown Children’s Hospital. “Their generosity has allowed us to hire two Child Life Specialists, supported our Healing Arts Program, and most recently, renovated the family lounge for the infusion center. All of these things help us better serve our patients and make them feel more at home so they can heal faster.”
Renown Children’s Hospital Celebrates 2017 Contributions
Representatives from Walmart, Sam’s Club and Renown Children’s Hospital recently came together to celebrate the $124,313 in donations raised in 2017. And they issued a new challenge: a goal of $130,000 during the next fund drive, spanning August 27 to September 30. Customers can help support this cause by donating at the register. Fourteen stores across Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Fallon, Gardnerville, Susanville, Winnemucca and Carson City are taking part.
As the only dedicated children’s hospital in northern Nevada, Renown Children’s Hospital cares for more than 26,000 children each year. These donations are key to providing care to young patients right here in our community.
“It’s an honor for Walmart and Sam’s Club to be recognized by Renown Children’s Hospital,” said Jose Acevedo, Walmart market manager in Nevada. “Our annual Children’s Miracle Network campaign is all about helping those most vulnerable in our community — our children. State-of-the-art technology in the pediatric intensive care unit and a new family lounge for the pediatric infusion center are realizations of that commitment, and we look forward to the many lives that will be positively impacted moving forward.”
