There’s no question our community is growing. To meet that need, Renown Health is partnering with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine to train tomorrow’s health providers and expand our region’s workforce.
Integrating medical offices, expanding residencies and fellowships as well as working to create a new master’s program are all crucial steps as Renown Health collaborates with the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine to meet our community’s growing healthcare needs.
Renown Health and UNRSOM are working to launch the area’s first master of physician assistant studies program at the University of Nevada’s Redfield Campus in south Reno.
Once trained, thes PAs will work on medical teams under the supervision of physicians and surgeons. Physician assistants are trained to examine, diagnose and treat patients in primary care, family medicine and specialty practices. Everyday responsibilities include patient appointments, performing physical exams, prescribing medication and ordering tests, assisting with surgeries and counseling patients on treatment plans.
This full-time master’s program will last 27 months and include academic and clinical skills courses as well as supervised clinical practice under the guidance of Renown providers. Students are required to have at least 2,000 hours of healthcare experience before applying, and because there is no residency needed after graduation, they can immediately begin working right here in northern Nevada after completing the program.
