If you’ve stepped outside your door anytime recently, chances are you’ve seen someone smoking an e-cigarette.
What is an e-cigarette? It’s a battery-operated device that converts chemicals — including nicotine — into an aerosol that is inhaled by the user. E-cigarettes have been touted as a miracle cure for smoking and have been marketed as a way to get your nicotine fix without inhaling toxic tobacco smoke.
In truth, e-cigarettes are not a benign cure-all for smokers.
They are actually causing more harm than good and potentially opening the door for teens to start smoking cigarettes. And unlike cigarettes and other tobacco products, e-cigarettes can be sold to minors or legally purchased online.
Take a moment and study the “vaping” infographic and talk to your teen about the harmful effects of e-cigarettes. A little education can go a long way toward preventing a smoking habit.
