Establishing Your Breastfeeding Relationship

Although breastfeeding is portrayed as natural and mother-infant feeding seems intuitive, it is a learned behavior that can require guidance, confidence building and fine tuning.

The Lactation Connection grew out of a strong desire to understand the science underlying breastfeeding and lactation in an effort to find solutions for difficulties moms may face. At The Lactation Connection, moms like you are given expert guidance, skills and information to help you meet your breastfeeding goals. Each mom and baby dyad is unique, and we’ll work closely with you to develop a customized plan that will transform your breastfeeding experience, and ultimately, your life-long bond.

As the only full-service lactation center in northern Nevada, we can help you prepare before your baby arrives, through the time you or your baby chooses to wean. We also offer breast pump rentals as a convenience to you.

Many breastfeeding mothers encounter unexpected joys and apprehensions throughout the breastfeeding journey. Rather than handle these in isolation, come to a Breastfeeding Forum where mothers can find support to meet their own breastfeeding goals. Mothers discuss their experiences and concerns such as milk supply, pumping, going back to work, sleeping or lack of sleep, to name just a few. Someone will inevitably have a suggestion, if not a definitive answer, to your challenge. One of our Registered Nurses/International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) facilitates this time and believes in informed choice and provides impartial, research-based information. Any amount of breastfeeding or using breast milk is seen as positive and normal. This is not an exclusively breastfeeding-only group; some mothers may prefer or need to bottle feed.

Pregnant women are warmly invited to attend the Breastfeeding Forum with our new mothers. You can get your questions answered and be confident in this resource after the birth of your baby.

A gram sensitive scale is available for weighing your baby and, if interested, doing before and after breast milk intake weights. This is not a personal consultation time, so if issues are too great for the group, a referral for a private appointment can be arranged. Our mothers have told us time and time again, that connecting with each other once their baby is born is helpful to them, so we continue offering our Breastfeeding Forums, our mother to mother support group, each Tuesday and Thursday. See our calendar for a full listing of breastfeeding and childbirth education classes and events.

The birth of your baby is both a wonderfully exciting and tiring time. Many mothers expect breastfeeding to be an easy, very natural thing. While it is easy for some, it often requires patience, education, support and care. The goal of The Lactation Connection is to provide every new mother and baby the necessary support to have a successful breastfeeding experience. Private lactation consultations are provided in the comfort of our office with immediate access to any necessary products.
