Welcome, New Year and New Baby! Renown’s First Baby of 2017
This year’s New Year celebrations took on a little different form for Lovelock residents Ashley and Hiram Knight. The two became parents for the fifth time – welcoming their first little girl New Year’s morning.
Baby Audrey Doll Knight came into the world at 5:31 a.m. on Jan. 1, weighing 7 pounds and 14.6 ounces. Little Audrey was the first baby born at Renown Children’s Hospital in 2017. Ashley says her contractions began New Year’s Eve morning and by 10:45 p.m. the couple decided to head into Reno. Just as they pulled up at Renown Regional Medical Center, the fireworks welcoming a new year began lighting up the sky downtown.
Ashley, a stay-at-home mom, and Hiram, who works for Southwest Gas, are thrilled to welcome their first little girl. The couple already has four boys – ages 8, 5, 3 and 18 months. Both Hiram and Ashley come from big families and knew they always wanted at least five children. Although, they may not have realized how long it would take to get their first girl. Even with ultrasounds showing Audrey was a girl, Ashley was a little skeptical given their record of boys. So the first question when Audrey was born – is it actually a girl? Fortunately for Ashley, she got her reassurance a little early. Baby Audrey wasn’t due until January 7 but decided New Year’s morning was the perfect time to join the world.
Audrey is welcomed by mom and dad, her four big brothers – one of whom was there for the delivery – and the excited Labor & Delivery nurses at Renown Children’s Hospital. The nurses helped celebrate the Knight’s 2017 addition with sparkling apple cider, cake and a special steak and egg breakfast. Sounds like a great way to ring in the New Year and welcome their first baby girl.
Congratulations and here’s to a wonderful year ahead from our Renown family to the Knight family — and everyone who calls northern Nevada and the Sierras home.
