Meet Tennyson Hunter, a 10-year-old from northern Nevada and the state’s Children’s Miracle Network Champion. The 36 Hours for Kids Radiothon by Alice 96.5 and Reno Media Group broadcast live March 10 and 11 from Renown Regional Medical Center to raise funds to benefit children like Tennyson, who rely on northern Nevada’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospital for care.

Ten-year old Tennyson Hunter has undergone more surgeries than most people will in their entire lives. Yet this bubbly boy laughs his way through his weekly visits to the Renown Children’s Specialty Clinic. He jokes with the doctors, nurses and child life specialists who have come to love him during his stays at Renown Children’s Hospital.

In discussing his new role as a Children’s Miracle Network Champion, Tennyson says, “I will tell people to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, so people like me can have easier lives.”

Meet Our Children’s Miracle Network Champion

Tennyson’s mom, Jana Hunter, says Tennyson spends two to three months of the year in the hospital. The young patient’s medical history began at birth, where he was considered “failing to thrive” by health care providers and later diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. After a successful surgery at 3 months old, Tennyson suffered a stroke, which led to seizures and other complications. He also has Evans Syndrome, an auto-immune disease.

“It’s important for Tennyson to be a Children’s Miracle Network Champion because he has a story to tell,” Jana says. “He has grown up at Renown Children’s Hospital, and his whole life has been impacted by it.”

36 Hours for Kids Radiothon and Playhouse Auction

The public helped Tennyson and many other young children dealing with complex medical issues by participating in the 36 Hours for Kids Radiothon by Alice 96.5 and Reno Media Group. From March 10 to March 11, Bill, Connie and RJ from Alice 96.5 broadcast live from Fianna’s Overlook in Renown Regional Medical Center to raise funds for the only northern Nevada Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

In addition to the Radiothon, Bill, Connie and RJ worked with local builders, designers and architects to create beautifully themed playhouses that were on display in the back parking lot of Reno Media Group at 961 Matley Lane in Reno. The finished playhouses were auctioned to benefit Renown Children’s Hospital.

Special thanks to the local builders who donated their time and supplies for the Miracle Playhouse Project: King Bee Construction, Dean Abbott Architecture, Artisan Communities, TRC Homes, Ryder Homes and Jenuane Communities.
